• What kind of ID do I need to provide? You must provide ONE of the following:
    1. A passport, driver’s license or government-issued nondriver identification card, which is current and unexpired. OR
    2. Another form of government identification, which:
      • is current;
      • contains the signature or a photograph of the individual; and
      • is satisfactory to the notary public.

If you do not have ID that meets either of the above requirements, a credible witness (someone who knows you) can sign a Credible Witness Affidavit to confirm your identity. The cost for the Credible Witness Affidavit is $5.

Read ID requirements set by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. (scroll to the section titled “Government-issued identification”)

  • Can I sign the document before the notary arrives to save time? No. The document cannot be notarized unless it is witnessed by the notary.
  • Why don’t you provide a embossed/raised seal when notarizing documents? Pennsylvania no longer requires that notaries use an embosser. Read the requirements set by the Commonwealth here.
